Settling vs Accepting: My #FPQ Answer

Every week, Fandango hosts a provocative question for all of us to answer, and this week’s question is:

Do you see a difference between settling for things and accepting the way things are? If so, in what way are they different? If not why do you feel settling and accepting are the same?

Here is my answer:

There is a difference between settling and accepting, but I think both are not achieving your best self. Settling is taking what you get handed to you, and it does not matter what you want. You take it and learn to live with it. Acceptance of a situation in your life is looking at all of the paths to that point and saying, “Ok, this is who I am, and I am going to make the best of what I have been blessed with”. The difference is that in acceptance, you could already be the best version of yourself and accept it, whereas in settling, you know you can be better or do better; however, you have given up a little bit in achieving your best.

E.M.’s Song Lyric Sunday – Fandango Theme *explicit*

This is my first Song Lyric Sunday! I am really excited to do this challenge because as soon as I read the theme, I knew the song I would choose *laughs*. After the night I had, it was nice to giggle a bit today when I saw the theme was inspired by a new friend, Fandango. Here’s to you, Fandango!

The Song: Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog (click or watch video for lyrics)

I love all kinds of music, and sometimes it is the only medium that can bring a smile to my face and take me out of anxiety. I hope you all enjoy!

My Prayer to Above

Today’s poetry style I will be using with my word challenges today is Nove Otto. The words of the day are comfortable by the Daily Spur, attend from Fandango, cloudscape from Ragtag, and spectacle from the Word of the Day challenge via Kristian. Nove Otto is 9 lines of 8 syllables each line, and the pattern of rhyme is aacbbcddc.

As always, be sure to go over and show some love to the hosts of these word challenges, and please join in the fun of the creativity their words invoke inside of you.

The cloudscape that lingered above
If possible, I would feel love
Such a beautiful spectacle
I stood there comfortable, numb
To attend such beauty when glum
Now feeling hypochondrial
The anxiety removes peace
My sanity begins decrease
I pray to fight the obstacle

‘Mommy…where are you?’

Sebastian stood there with his nose to the glass as he lingered at the window with his best friend, Klaus. He could not recall how long she had been gone. He just stood there, occasionally glancing over to the dog. Tears were taking shape in his eyes, and his lip began to pucker just a tad. He was young, but he was also very smart. Time was passing, and he thought him and Klaus were all alone. It was almost dinner time.

‘Who will feed and ‘nuggle wif us now?’

The dog looks at him cocking his head to the side a bit at the high pitch of Sebastian’s tone. Sebastian stares back blankly but huffing his breath a bit about to cry. Klaus goes back to looking out the window, without a care in the world it seemed. He knew the other human was in the kitchen making some dinner and was starting to smell the aromas of the food, but the little man was very attached to his busy human.

Sebastian’s mother was the epitome of a rock star. She worked two jobs in the daytime and one at night while her mother watched the boy for her. She was gone a lot to put food on the table and to make sure they had a roof over their head. The only days she had with Sebastian were on Wednesdays, and today was that day. Sebastian would wait for it every week like clockwork. Why was today different?
