The Thanksgiving Spread – #SoCS

Golly gee! It was a great holiday with my family on Thanksgiving. We had a lot of good food, a lot of time together cooking the food, and a lot of time watching some good football games. I figured I would share the goodies that we had for this Saturday’s Stream of Consciousness.

This was the turkey:

We called her Tomasina.

This was the ham (since my daughter doesn’t care for turkey):

Slow Cooker Ham by my Sis – brown sugar and pineapple

This was my homemade cranberry sauce:

Mmm Mmm. Not too sweet…not too tart.

These are the deviled eggs made by my sister:

By my sister: I don’t eat them, but she does them perfectly.

The gravy by my sister (it was delicious):

By Sis – She has a great recipe! I always love her turkey gravy.

The homemade chicken and noodles made by me from scratch:

I had help from my daughter making the noodles this year.

The corn and real mashed potatoes:

Sis did the corn – I seasoned
I whipped these babies up perfectly, seasoning and all.

The green beans (from scratch, not a can):

Green beans by E.M.

Rolls with Cranberry Sauce:

We call them “butts” lol

Stuffing:

Stove Top…but we love it!

My homemade marbled cheesecake brownies (from scratch):

These are so good with my coffee!

We also have pumpkin pie, banana pudding, and a lemon cake with homemade cream cheese icing. I just didn’t do pictures of them.

Golly gee willikers! It was a great feast and a great day!

xoxo, E.M.

E.M.’s World – 11/22/2021

What are some red flags to watch out for in daily life?

Some red flags that I watch for in daily life are anything that affects my mood in a negative way. I am an empath, so I am like a human sponge for other people’s emotions and feelings. If anything feels off, I try to listen to my gut about them or the flag that is being thrown. Lies and sneaky stuff really trigger my red flags, and when someone is unduly angry, it makes my soul catch on fire. I hate confrontation, and I cannot stand to feel like I cannot exist in the same space with someone.

What obstacles would you include in the ‘world’s most amazing obstacle course”?

  • Frogger stances where you must jump like a frog to get from point A to point B
  • A twerking contest between a person and a goat…the best booty shaking goes forward.
  • Sing an 80’s hairband ballad while climbing a rope to get the key to the next obstacle
  • Crab crawl through shallow water
  • Tarzan vine to swing across a large body of water, but you have to miss the trees.

Who is the best movie or book villain in your opinion?  (‘book’ is included because some folks don’t watch movies)

Venom!

What, in your opinion, is the most beautiful/handsome part of your face? (no dissing yourself please, we’re all beautiful/handsome!)

My eyes! I am the only one that got my grandpa’s blue eyes, and they are the key to seeing who I am and what I am about. I love my eyes.

GRATITUDE SECTION  🦃🕊

Next week on Thursday, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.   What are some foods you enjoy for your festive celebration dinners?  (Doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving, as I realize the whole world isn’t participating in ‘our’ holiday)

Every year for Thanksgiving, it’s my tradition to make homemade noodles. My mom and grandma started the tradition, so I carried it on. The other foods we have are turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes with homemade gravy, green beans, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, and yeast rolls. Then the desserts this year are pumpkin pie, marbled cheesecake brownies, banana pudding, and Jell-O cake.

Tis’ the Season to be Shopping – #writephoto

Shopping Trolley in an empty supermarket
Image Credit: Shopping – by KL Caley

This week, KL Caley asks us, “Is shopping to be loved or loathed?” This is the photo prompt for that question.

My answer is:

I love to shop, but I loathe having limited income this Christmas season. Shopping is one of my favorite things to do, and it’s one of my risky behaviors that go along with my Bipolar Disorder. When I cannot shop and get things that I want, it makes me a bit manic. This season for Christmas will be hard because my money is limited. I will find a way to make everyone’s gifts special, but I cannot go all out like I normally do.

This photo will be my view in a few weeks, as I’ll be pushing the shopping cart down the aisle looking for the perfect gift for everyone. Some gifts will be purchased in a store just like this one, and others I will go to my old standby…Amazon. This picture reminded me that I should have put my favorite perfume on my Christmas list though *laughs*.

Tis’ the season to be shopping and thankful, so I will love to shop and be thankful that I have another year with my loved ones after a really bad year for many people due to the pandemic. We will gather this year, and I pray for everyone’s safety.

Happy Veteran’s Day from E.M.

Photo by Brett Sayles on Pexels.com

Good morning everyone! I wanted to take a moment to thank any and all service members on this day. Without your sacrifice, this world could possibly be a darker place than it already is.

Also, I want to pay my respects to those that have paid with their lives for this country.

My sister and grandfather on my mother’s side of the family served in the Army. My sister is still with us, and she was able to become a nurse-midwife with her training in the Army Reserves. My grandpa was a recipient of the Purple Heart in World War II. His name was Martin Amore. I am not sure how many people in my family served on my father’s side of the family, but I know that one of my cousins lost their life to suicide after serving for so long. His name was Kevin Kennedy.

Today, I would like to add their names to this blog in remembrance of their sacrifice.

Thank you to all factions of our military for the work you do to keep us comfortable and safe.

xoxo, E.M.

Happy Halloween!

It’s been a great day! My Saints beat Brady and the Bucs, and I just watched my middle child leave with my grandbaby to go trick or treating. It’s her first Halloween, and she loves it. She was actually trying to kiss the Jason mask that my daughter wore lol…I will write more soon with the challenges, but I hope you all have had an amazing Samhain.

Haunted Night Out

She heard the whisper creeping across her ear.

Her gaze was more serious than candid as it approached her.

While the lonely apparition crossed before her eyes, she gasped.

The collar of her costume clung tightly to her neck with her hand in his.

With each step further into the haunted house, she was distraught.

It was horrific fear that would mate with her soul and set it on fire.

To be frank, she could not wait to reach the end of this horror.

As daylight grazed through the end of the hall, she rushed out.

She flailed into his arms, thinking “No more haunts for me.”

Fibbing Friday – Halloweeny Fibs 10/29/2021

Friday fun starts with Fibbing Friday, and this week’s fibbing is of a spooky theme since Halloween is around the corner. I love Halloween, except I call it Samhain. The veil lowers, and it brings about good things for the harvests to come. Let’s get to fibbing *giggles*

  1. Why does garlic repel vampires?

Garlic has the same effect as water on gremlins. The smell of it makes them bubble and pop out baby bats from their backs.
  2. What do you need to kill a werewolf?

    A lady werewolf…
  3. What is the purpose of a Jack-o-lantern?

A Jack-o-lantern is supposed to be a portal to bring Jack Skellington to your Halloween parties.
  4. What exactly is a ghoul?

A ghoul is like a cute little puppy and is full of sunshine. It farts rainbows.
  5. Why can’t vampires enter a home unless invited?

Because not even vampires can dodge a breaking and entering charge…immortal or not.
  6. Why can’t vampires cross running water?

It would mess up their really good hair, and their shoes are really expensive.
  7. What does a chupacabra eat?

    Little Debbie snack cakes…
  8. What is the name of the three-headed dog that guards the gates of the underworld?

Niklaus Mikaelson…he’s in super hybrid form.
  9. Who are the Stygian Witches?

Joan Ferguson, Chucky’s Bride, and Baby Shark
  10. What alcoholic beverage is thought to be the true origin of witches’ brew?

Tequila…it magically makes your clothes fall off *giggles*

My World – Frightful Edition

Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building  (yeah it’s a retread.  But there are new participants to SYW too who probably never answered it).

Zombies, clowns, or porcelain dolls that come alive…all three of them scare the bajeebies out of me. Needless to say, I am not a fan of The Walking Dead, It, or Annabelle.

Do you believe in multiple dimensions or worlds?

Yes. There are many planes of reality, and we are selfish to think that we are the only inhabitants of many different galaxies.

Would you ever go to a graveyard at night?

Hell to the nah!

What is the most frightening book you’ve ever read?

I am not much of a scary book reader. I am more of a fantasy vampire reader, and they are not scary to me.

BONUS QUESTION (just for silliness’ sake!)

If you could have a spooky Halloween pet (black cat, owl, bat, rat, wolf), which would you pick out of the five choices?

Definitely the wolf…they are majestic, as well as the fact they can rip the throat out of anyone who would hurt me. A dire wolf would be cool to have.

GRATITUDE SECTION (As always, optional)
What are you grateful for?

I am grateful to know what has always been wrong with me and to my family for putting up with me. I am also thankful for the rain, even though I hate smoking outside in the rain. With wind comes rain in California, and yesterday there was enough wind to power a jet engine or two or 300. I am thankful to breathe also.

E.M.’s Halloween Truths for Truthful Tuesday

Each week, PCGuyIV hosts Truthful Tuesday. Click here to join in the fun! Here is the question and my answer from the prompt.

The Question

Considering how last year went and the current state of things, do you have any plans for Halloween this year? Will you be going to any costume parties, handing out trick-or-treat candy, or just staying at home with the porch light off so no one will bother you? Please let us know!

The Truthful Answer

Last year we made the best of the situation, and we got decked out in costumes while playing some music and passing out candy in the driveway. This year things will be a little different since I have my grandbaby. This is her first Halloween, so we will be dressing up and hitting the streets to trick-or-treat. My sister will probably stay back and hand out the candy while my daughter, grandbaby, and me go to the porch lights.

I am curious how many will actually be on, but I live in a community that has been pretty rebellious when it comes to Covid restrictions. I think there will be quite a few. I don’t know what I will dress up for this year, but I am thinking of being a pirate or Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas. Last year I was Sally.

E.M.’s World: Share Your World Answers 10/18/21

Are you easily frightened or startled?

I am absolutely the easiest person to frighten or startle. It has not always been that way. I used to love scary things and watching a good horror/thriller flick on television. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. The problem is that now when I watch scary movies that I have night terrors, and I get startled easy, even around the people I live with. If someone is walking through the house when I am not expecting it, it makes me jump and even scream out sometimes. I am not sure when I got so fearful or when the night terrors started or why, but it probably has a little to do with my PTSD and anxiety. It really got bad when I watched The Grudge. My family pokes a little fun at how much I get scared of dolls, clowns, and zombies. At least everyone can get a bit of amusement on my “scary” factor in my personality lol.

(Purely whimsical supposition.  Suspend disbelief for a bit)
If you were a ghost, what location do you think you would haunt? Is it the same or different from the location you’d want
 to haunt?

If I were a ghost, I would probably be stuck in this backyard at my house, but when it comes to where I would haunt, that location is different. I would want to haunt my ex-husband’s house and give back some of the torment and mental problems he gave me. In the first situation, I would not be a malevolent ghost, but in the second situation I would definitely be a bad ghost lol.

What do you see in your mind’s eye when you close your eyes?  (I know somebody will answer ‘the inside of my eyelids”, so I took the temptation away by answering that first!    Feel free to use that answer if you like though, or pass. It’s ALL good!)

My mind’s eye takes me places all the time. I call that “pictures in my head”, and it is one of the strongest side effects of my mental illness. I will see little movies of me and the people around me, places, people I have no idea who they are, and animals interacting with me. It’s not a bad side effect, but it happens mostly when I am awake. My mind’s eye is pretty calm and quiet usually, but it has caused a few bad visions.

If a Semi (Big Rig in Americanese) (lorry or trolley over the pond) were about to smash into a crowd, and you could divert the vehicle’s course to hit only one person, would you?  How would you decide who would become the victim?

LOL! This question made me giggle because I would always have a semi head right toward my ex-husband due to all of the pain he caused me and my children. He was a terrible person, and he still is. I don’t believe I would even shed a tear.

GRATITUDE SECTION

Please feel free to share what makes you feel warm and cozy when the wind blows cold? Alternatively (for those on the other side of the world), what makes you feel relaxed and comfortable when the thermometer starts rising?

When the wind blows cold, I love a nice hot cup of coffee and a fuzzy blanket to feel warm and cozy while listening to one of my audio books on Audible and smoking a cigarette or two or three lol.
