E.M.’s Upcoming Holiday Truths

This week on Truthful Tuesday, PCGuyIV asks us this question:

Whatever holidays you may celebrate this time of year, how ready for them are you?

To be honest, I am not nearly as prepared as I usually am, which means that I am not ready lol. I did get some shopping done today…not too late, but I missed the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. I hate waiting on a monthly check, but it is what it is right now. I wanted to get the girls those heirloom music boxes with the ballerinas, but they are so outside of my budget. Next year hopefully…

The Covid situation will not affect our family at all because we all live in the same house, while our other family members live in different states. We will have a good spread of food and gifts, and then we will all watch some Christmas shows on TV. Movies are a big thing for our family. Series, Movies, Football, and WWE. That about sums up our television 24/7.

New Year’s Eve will be me drinking margaritas and watching the ball drop on TV with my sister and daughter, and hopefully with the company of the fella that warms my heart…but we shall see. I don’t go out and about on New Year’s Eve because of all the drinkers that drive. I’m happy staying put, safe at home without a hitch or a stitch…or worse.

I guess I am as ready as I’ll ever be.

The Truth About Change for E.M.

This week’s Truthful Tuesday is about change. The prompt this week asks:

If you don’t run a prompt, what deliberate changes have you made to your blog since you first started blogging? In either case, have there been any unintentional changes that just sort of happened on their own?”

Here is my truthful answer regarding changes to my blog:

When I first started blogging, I was only writing little rambles about myself and writing poetry. As time has gone forward, I find myself doing much more because of the prompts that I have found in my fellow bloggers. When I first started blogging, I used my legal name, but after my dad passed in 2016, I began using the pen name of E.M. Kingston and started this blog with a blank canvas of building this name in regards to my writing. The name was to honor his pen name, S.A. Kingston.

I have been thinking of creating my own weekly prompt and daily word challenge since my blog is growing nicely. It’s because I enjoy using the word challenges and prompts so much, and they have been very helpful in making me a better writer. It’s a lot of inspiration in the WP world. Everything I have done on this blog has been unintentional because I just write, and I never thought I would find so many prompts that make my world a better place.

E.M.’s Truth for Tuesday

Today’s Truthful Tuesday is about life and how it decided to treat us on this November 16th Tuesday. PCGuyIV asks us how life is treating us and to share a truth about today.

My Tuesday has been traumatic to my body.

My dogs are rebellious at times, and they pee on things when they are ticked off at me. It’s annoying because they know to go outside, but they still find it necessary to show me who the boss is by pissing on something. To attempt to “retrain” them, I put a baby gate in the hallway that leads into the living room, since my sister’s chair corner and the arm of the couch had been my oldest, senile dog’s favorite places to give me the “what-for”.

So today, I climbed over the gate as usual with my short legs (I am only 4’11”), and my right set of toes catch the top of the gate in the worst way possible. Down I went! My knee hit first, and then I caught the rest of my body with my bad shoulder, wrist, and then my bum took some of the damage as well. I am sorer than I could imagine, and I have a purple goose egg below my knee cap. My feet are swollen from my bum taking the shock of the fall, and I am annoyed that we have to put a gate up for two bad babies that cannot stop hiking their legs. My shoulder blade in the back is screaming at me, and my right leg is cramping…and mind you that I did not fall on that one.

I am about to take my nighttime meds and take my sore bum to bed lol. I don’t know if I will be able to move in the morning, but here’s to hoping that my body heals itself in my slumber.

E.M.’s “Would You Rather” Truths

This week’s Truthful Tuesday from PCGuyIV asks us what we would rather do with two choices, and of course, mine are indecisive on some lol. I hope you enjoy my answers.

Would you rather:

  1. Do Housework or Yardwork?

Yardwork – I hate housework, especially dishes. I would much rather play in traffic than do dishes.
  2. Clean the Kitchen or the Bathroom?

Bathroom – I would say kitchen if I had a man in the house, but the bathroom is just myself and my daughter sharing. No nasty toilet habits lol.
  3. Do Laundry or Dishes?

    Laundry – See Question 1 about dishes…
  4. Mow or Edge the lawn?

Mow – although I am not able to do either of these.
  5. Get up early or Stay up late?

Stay up late! I do wake early, but I would rather stay up late and sleep in. I’m lazy lol.
  6. Cook or Eat Out?

Some days I love to cook, and some days I love to eat out. I would rather cook though.
  7. Go to a restaurant or Order take-out/delivery?

Depends on the situation…take-out with family but restaurants on special occasions or dates…
  8. Vacuum or Dust?

Dust…Me and the vaccuum are not friends lol.
  9. Have a Large Party or a Small Gatherings?

    Small gatherings
  10. Read Fiction or Non-fiction?

I actually enjoy both and prefer both. I love true crime novels, and I also love me a good fantasy or thriller in non-fiction.

E.M.’s Wednesday Truthful Tuesday

This week’s question was a little bit late, but I forgot yesterday was a Tuesday until I saw the pingback on the post from PCGuyIV for the Truthful Tuesday prompt *snickers*. Medicine has been making me a little forgetful, and I am losing track of time sometimes. It’s all good! Let’s tell some truths.

The Questions

Frank says and asks, “Today’s questions are a bit more in the vein of Fandango’s Provocative Questions. These questions could almost be considered different angles on the same question, but I figured I would be a bit more specific.

  • What are your thoughts on white-washing in movies and tv shows? (If you aren’t aware, it’s having a white actor play a role of a non-white character. Think of Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, or Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in Dr. Strange.)

  • What are your thoughts on changing the race, gender, orientation, or other facet of an established character for the sake of diversity? For recent examples, casting Liet Kynes as a woman in the newest movie adaptation of Dune when the source material clearly indicates Kynes is a man, casting a black man (specifically Samuel L. Jackson) as Nick Fury, who was originally a white character, in the Marvel movies, or making Lt. Sulu gay in the most recent Star Trek movies with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk.”

My Short and Concise Answer:

It’s modern-day cancel culture. It happens too often, and it needs to stop in both instances.

E.M.’s Movie Truths – Truthful Tuesday 10/26/21

Each Tuesday of every week, PCGuyIV hosts a prompt called Truthful Tuesday, and he poses a question to gain our versions of the truth. This week the question is about movies.

The Question

Have you been to any movies that you absolutely expected to enjoy, but ended up hating? Or perhaps you went begrudgingly to a film with someone else and ended up enjoying it despite your expectations? Let us know about a time when a movie defied your expectations. What made it better or worse than expected?

My Answer

For the majority of my life, I avoided any movies related to Marvel and DC Comics because I honestly did not think I would like them. I had never been a fan of comic books when I was growing up, so I figured that the movies would be just as boring to me. I was absolutely wrong.

My sister suggested we watch all of the movies from Marvel and DC in order from start to finish, and I was hooked. I loved all of the action and storylines. I found that I loved some characters more than others, as well as making some of them my favorites. Dr. Strange and Captain Marvel exceeded my expectations and became my top two superheroes.

Dr. Strange’s story and powers, along with his magic cape, made me love him, and Captain Marvel made many of the stories make more sense to me when I watched her story. It was all clarifying after watching that movie.

Would you believe that I cannot think of a movie that I have watched that I hated? I am a pretty good movie picker. If I had to choose one that I thought I would like but didn’t care for, it would be the Scream movies. They were just stupid lol.

E.M.’s Halloween Truths for Truthful Tuesday

Each week, PCGuyIV hosts Truthful Tuesday. Click here to join in the fun! Here is the question and my answer from the prompt.

The Question

Considering how last year went and the current state of things, do you have any plans for Halloween this year? Will you be going to any costume parties, handing out trick-or-treat candy, or just staying at home with the porch light off so no one will bother you? Please let us know!

The Truthful Answer

Last year we made the best of the situation, and we got decked out in costumes while playing some music and passing out candy in the driveway. This year things will be a little different since I have my grandbaby. This is her first Halloween, so we will be dressing up and hitting the streets to trick-or-treat. My sister will probably stay back and hand out the candy while my daughter, grandbaby, and me go to the porch lights.

I am curious how many will actually be on, but I live in a community that has been pretty rebellious when it comes to Covid restrictions. I think there will be quite a few. I don’t know what I will dress up for this year, but I am thinking of being a pirate or Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas. Last year I was Sally.

Truthful Tuesday: E.M.’s Truth

This is my first Truthful Tuesday! I loved the topic, and the question hosted by Thoughts and Theories today is:

When you were in grade school, what did you want to be when you grew up? Were you right, or did you end up doing something else?

My Answer:

I wanted to be an Avon Lady when I was in grade school. *laughs* This used to be one of the biggest jokes in our household when I was growing up. My mom spent a lot of money on Avon, and I saw how much she spent and gave the Avon Lady. I was amazed about, at that age and in that time period, all of the $10 and $20 bills that she gave this woman, and I wanted all of that money too. She never gave us money, unless she wanted her young children to go with a note to the gas station to buy her a pack of cigarettes. So, my sister used to make fun of me and make jokes that she wanted to be a lawyer (reputable), while I wanted to be a “stupid” Avon Lady. I would shrug it off and brag at school that I would be rich one day selling Avon…they never called it stupid.

I definitely did not become an Avon Lady, nor did my sister become a lawyer. She became a nurse midwife, and I am on the pathway to becoming a lawyer. I was a housewife for most of my very late adulthood…it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I just graduated college with two degrees at the age of 45 to lead me down the right path after an ugly divorce and being dumped by my ex in California. I started brand new, and now I am actually on a path I can be proud of. However, I have seen many very successful Avon Ladies that I give my money to now *laughs*. Next step, LSAT!
