E.M.’s Contraction Tunes [1Explicit] ~ Song Lyric Sunday

This week the theme for Jim’s Song Lyric Sunday is songs that feature lyrics with the contractions of Can’t, Don’t, Shouldn’t, Won’t. I have one with explicit lyrics, so be aware if you are offended 🙂

The first song that came to mind was ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) with Don’t Bring Me Down. ELO is one of those bands that my father would play a lot in the car when he would pick me up and take me home. My mom lived in Illinois, and my Dad always lived most of his life in Indiana. So the drive was sometimes 25-30 minutes, or, when he moved further away for a while, it was over an hour. He always had cool cars and equally cool music playing in those cars.

“Don’t Bring Me Down”

You got me runnin’ goin’ out of my mind,
You got me thinkin’ that I’m wastin’ my time.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You wanna stay out with your fancy friends.
I’m tellin’ you it’s got to be the end,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down.

What happened to the girl I used to know?
You let your mind out somewhere down the road,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You’re always talkin’ ’bout your crazy nights,
One of these days you’re gonna get it right.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down, groos
Don’t bring me down.

You’re lookin’ good just like a snake in the grass,
One of these days you’re gonna break your glass.
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

You got me shakin’ got me runnin’ away
You got me crawlin’ up to you everyday,
Don’t bring me down, no no no no no,
I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

I’ll tell you once more before I get off the floor
Don’t bring me down.

The second song I found while searching for the contractions on this challenge. I have a great story about this artist. The song I found is called Wouldn’t Let Me Love You by Richard Marx. (It also uses “couldn’t”)

When I lived in Danville, they had a radio station called D102, and they would give away tickets to concerts. I cannot remember my age (would have to ask sis), but that week I had called in and won twice on these contests. I don’t remember what the first thing was that I won, but you could only win once in a certain amount of time.

Anyway, I’m tired and rambling on *laughs* They were giving away Richard Marx tickets, and I was absolutely head over heels in love with him. These were VIP tickets with a limo ride and a backstage pass for me and a friend.

Well, I was so excited, I gave them my name again instead of saying my sister’s name. I was disqualified from winning, so they went to the next caller 😦 My mom felt so bad for me since I was destroyed emotionally from messing up, and she got my sister and I tickets to his show. They were not VIP, but I got to see Richard Marx live and up close enough.

Here are the lyrics to the song:

“Wouldn’t Let Me Love You”

by Richard Marx

I’m standing here paralyzed
So helpless right before your eyes
And all that you can seem to do is look away
I know this weight that’s on my shoulders
Is telling me it’s really over
And now goodbye’s the only thing that’s left to say

You were always worth the risk
But how’d it come to this

Cause I’ve opened up my heart to bleed
I Let you have the best of me
But you wouldn’t let me love you
You couldn’t let me love you
I tried to give you what you need
But it took so long to finally see
That you wouldn’t let me love you
Couldn’t let me love you

Somehow you said all the right things
To cover up the pain you’re hiding
And never let me in close enough to touch
You live with all these walls around you
Impossible for me to break through
And baby even I can only fight so much

And it’s cutting me so deep
Promises I tried to keep

Cause I’ve opened up my heart to bleed
I let you have the best of me
But you wouldn’t let me love you
You couldn’t let me love you
I lied to give you what you need
But it took so long to finally see
That you wouldn’t let me love you
Couldn’t let me love you

And you should have been the one
The more I love, the more you run

I opened up my heart to bleed
I let you have the best of me
But you wouldn’t let me love you
You couldn’t let me love you
I tried to give you what you need
But it took so long to finally see
That you wouldn’t let me love you
Couldn’t let me love you

Couldn’t let me, wouldn’t let me
You wouldn’t let me love you
Couldn’t let me, wouldn’t let me

I’m standing here paralyzed
So helpless right before your eyes
And all that you can do is look away

For my fellow metalheads, my third song is Can’t Heal You from Five Finger Death Punch. FFDP is my RAWR band because their lyrics always sing to my manic episodes of my bipolar. If I am listening to their music, you better believe that I am fighting demons. The thing I love about them is that Ivan can growl/scream, and then he can turn around and sing so beautifully. Their lyrics are real, and I wonder if Ivan is not like me sometimes due to the nature of his words.

[[[[[THE LYRICS ARE EXPLICIT]]]]]

“Can’t Heal You”

The deeper you get, the farther you fall down
The closer I get, the more you dissolve

You’re lost inside, your pale addictions
Bury you, with the demons in the ash

Can’t heal you, don’t want to
‘Cause you can’t save your-fuckin’-self
Can’t heal you, don’t need to
‘Cause you won’t save yourself

You are the one who made the decision
Stuck in a prison, shattered and broken
I am the one who, expected to heal you, save you from drowning in your endless nightmare
Blessed be, the disillusioned
The banished misfit and the cursed hollow son

Can’t heal you, I don’t want to
‘Cause you can’t save your-fuckin’-self
Can’t heal you, don’t need to
‘Cause you won’t save yourself

We’re taught to perish but fade away
Become the haunted and die as slaves

Can’t heal you, I don’t want to
‘Cause you can’t save yourself
Can’t heal you, don’t need to
‘Cause you won’t save yourself
Can’t heal you, I don’t want to
‘Cause you can’t save your-fuckin’-self
Can’t heal you, don’t need to
‘Cause you won’t save yourself

Lastly, I will share one of my Adele songs that I love to sing and belt out when I am alone in my room. Adele is one of those artists that you can love her journey through her lyrics. Her voice has always mystified me, and I love singing her music.

“He Won’t Go”

Some say
I’ll be better without you
But they don’t know you like I do
Or at least the sides I thought I knew

I can’t bear this time
It drags on as I lose my mind
Reminded by things I find
Like notes and clothes you’ve left behind

Wake me up, wake me up when all is done
I won’t rise until this battle’s won
My dignity’s become undone

But I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

So petrified
I’m so scared to step into this ride
What if I lose my heart and fail the climb?
I won’t forgive me if I give up trying

I heard his voice today
I didn’t know a single word he said
Not one resemblance to the man I met
Just a vague and broken boy instead

But I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

There will be times
We’ll try and give it up
Bursting at the seams, no doubt
We’ll almost fall apart then burn the pieces
So watch them turn to dust
But nothing will ever taint us

I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

Will he… will he still remember me?
Will he still love me even when he’s free?
Or will he go back to the place where he would choose the poison over me?

When we spoke yesterday
He said to hold my breath and sit and wait
“I’ll be home so soon, I won’t be late.”

He won’t go
He can’t do it on his own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
He’s willing to take the risk

So I won’t go
He can’t do it on his own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

‘Cause he won’t go
He can’t do it on his own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
We’re willing to take the risk

I won’t go
I can’t do it on my own
If this ain’t love, then what is?
I’m willing to take the risk

Have a great Monday, everyone!

xoxo, E.M.

  1. You’re lookin’ good just like a snake in the grass is what this guy says to a girl that he is done with, since she couldn’t care less about him, so he is walking out on her, knowing tht she can’t be trusted. Great music Amy, although I only knew the ELO and the Adele songs.

    1. Thanks, Jim! The Richard Marx song was new to me. That ELO is one of those songs that are timeless. Adele as well 🙂 Sorry I was late. I started it early this morning, around 1 a.m. Happy Valentine’s Day, Jim!
