This week’s Song Lyric Sunday‘s theme is those that feature lyrics of Entertainment, Circus, and Show suggested by Melanie B Cee of Sparks From A Combustible Mind. I have a wide range of genres that I listen to, so hopefully, you all enjoy the songs I choose. A few of them I couldn’t post due to lyrics that made me cringe *laughs* 😀 This one was really fun to figure out.
The first song that came to mind is Turn the Page by Bob Seger, since he is talking about being in entertainment and the shows that he performed. Metallica did a great remake of this song too, so I am including it too 🙂
On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine moanin’ out its one-note song
You can think about the woman, or the girl you knew the night before
But your thoughts will soon be wandering, the way they always do
When you’re riding sixteen hours and there’s nothing there to do
And you don’t feel much like riding, you just wish the trip was through
Here I am, on a road again
There I am, on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page
Well, you walk into a restaurant all strung-out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you as you’re shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesn’t bother you, but you just want to explode
Most times you can’t hear ’em talk, other times you can
All the same old clichés, is it woman, is it man?
And you always seem outnumbered, so you don’t dare make a stand
Here I am, on a road again
There I am, on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page
Out there in the spotlight you’re a million miles away
Every ounce of energy you try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play
Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed
With the echoes from the amplifiers ringin’ in your head
You smoke the day’s last cigarette, remembering what she said
Here I am, on a road again
There I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, turn the page
Here I am, on a road again
There I am, on the stage, yeah
Here I go, playing star again
There I go, there I go
My second choice for this theme would be Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. MCR is one of my favorite emo bands, and this song was the one that drew me into their music. A parade is not a circus, but it’s pretty close.
When I was a young boy, my father
Took me into the city to see a marching band
He said, “Son, when you grow up would you be
The savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?”
He said, “Will you defeat them? Your demons
And all the non-believers, the plans that they have made?
Because one day, I’ll leave you a phantom
To lead you in the summer to join the black parade…”
When I was a young boy, my father
Took me into the city to see a marching band
He said, “Son, when you grow up would you be
The savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?”
Sometimes I get the feeling she’s watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets
And when you’re gone, we want you all to know
We’ll carry on, we’ll carry on, and though you’re
Dead and gone, believe me, your memory
Will carry on, we’ll carry on, and in my
Heart, I can’t contain it, the anthem won’t explain it
A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back, let’s shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call
To carry on, we’ll carry on, and though you’re
Dead and gone, believe me, your memory
Will carry on, we’ll carry on, and though you’re
Broken and defeated, your weary widow marches
On and on, we carry through the fears (Oh, oh, oh)
Disappointed faces of your peers (Oh, oh, oh)
Take a look at me, ’cause I could not care at all
Do or die, you’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you’ll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won’t explain or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed, I’m gonna show my scars
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it’s who we are
I’m just a man, I’m not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this song
I’m just a man, I’m not a hero
I don’t care!
We’ll carry on, we’ll carry on, and though you’re
Dead and gone, believe me, your memory
Will carry on, we’ll carry on, and though you’re
Broken and defeated, your weary widow marches
Do or die, you’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you’ll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part (We’ll carry on!)
Do or die, you’ll never make me (We’ll carry on!)
Because the world will never take my heart (We’ll carry on!)
Go and try, you’ll never break me (We’ll carry-)
We want it all, we wanna play this part (We’ll carry on…)
Landing in London is about being on the road and away from the one they love by 3 Doors Down, so it will be my honorable mention this week. The cool part about this song, as well, is that Bob Seger is also singing in this one:
I woke up today in London
As the plane was touching down
And all I could think about was monday
And maybe ill be back around
If this keeps me away much longer
I dont know what i will do
Youve got to understand its a hard life
That im going through
And when the night falls in around me
I dont think ill make it through
Ill use your light to guide the way
Cause all I think about is you
Well L.A is getting kinda crazy
And New york is getting kinda cold
I keep my head from geting lazy
I just cant wait to get back home
And all these days i spend away
Ill make up for this i swear
I need your love to hold me up
When its all too much to bear
And when the night falls in around me
I dont think ill make it through
Ill use your light to guide the way
Cause all I think about is you
And all these days i spend away
Ill make up for this i swear
I need your love to hold me up
When its all too much to bear
When the night falls in around me
I dont think ill make it through
Ill use your light to guide the way
Cause all I think about is you
Nice music EM and this is the first time that I heard of an emo band. I really enjoyed the 3 Doors Down song.

You capture my childhood with these three bands. I really love Metallica’s version of “Turn the Page”. I love their artistry.
