Everybody’s Fool

This week I am participating for the first time in Jim’s (Newepicauthor) Thursday Inspiration, and the prompt is the word “fool“, the image above, or the song by the Doobie Brothers called What A Fool Believes (or another Doobie Bros Song). The first song that came to mind for a fool is Everybody’s Fool by Evanescence. It was one of my go-to songs back in the 2000s when I was a hardcore fan of the band with the lead singer as Amy Lee and her guitarist Ben Moody. They have gotten new members these days I believe, but I tend to like the beginning of this band more than the end. She’s more of a solo artist than a band now.

“Everybody’s Fool”

Perfect by nature
Icons of self-indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that…

…never was and never will be
Have you no shame? Don’t you see me?
You know you’ve got everybody fooled

Look, here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh, how we love you
No flaws when you’re pretending

But now I know she

…never was and never will be
You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me
And somehow you’ve got everybody fooled

Without the mask, where will you hide?
Can’t find yourself lost in your lie

I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don’t love you anymore

It never was and never will be
You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me
And somehow you’ve got everybody fooled

It never was and never will be
You’re not real and you can’t save me
Somehow now you’re everybody’s fool

The second song that comes to mind is Just A Fool by Cristina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. It’s one of my favorites when I am wanting to stab needles in the eyes of my ex. (He was a monster, so it’s okay that I daydreamed about that *giggles*) I like to sing this song too when I run into it now and then.

“Just A Fool”
(with Blake Shelton)

Uh.
Eh.

Another shot of whiskey please, bartender.
Keep it coming ’til I don’t remember at all
How bad it hurts when you’re gone (na, na, na).

Turn the music up a little bit louder.
Just gotta get past the midnight hour (uh, huh).
Maybe tomorrow it won’t be this hard.

Who am I kidding?
I know what I’m missing.

Oh, I had my heart set on you,
But nothing else hurts like you do.
Who knew that love was so cruel (yeah, yeah, yeah)?
And I waited and waited so long
For someone who’ll never come home.
It’s my fault to think you’ll be true (yeah, yeah).
I’m just a fool.
Yeah.

[Blake Shelton:]
I say that I don’t care and walk away. Whatever.
And I tell myself we were bad together (uh, huh),
But that’s just me tryna move on without you.

But who am I kidding?
I know what I’m missing.

I, I had my heart set on you,
But nothing else hurts like you do.
Who knew that love was so cruel (yeah, yeah, yeah)?
And I waited and waited so long
For someone who’ll never come home.
It’s my fault to think you’ll be true (yeah, yeah).
I’m just a fool

For holding onto something that’s
Never ever gonna come back.
I can’t accept that it’s lost.

I should’ve let it go,
Held my tongue,
Kept my big mouth shut
‘Cause now everything is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

I’m just a fool.
A fool for you.
I’m just a fool.

I, I had my heart set on you,
But nothing else hurts like you do (uh).
Who knew that love was so cruel (yeah, yeah, yeah)?
I waited and waited so long
For someone who’ll never come home.
It’s my fault to think you’ll be true (yeah, yeah).
I’m just a fool.
I’m just a fool.
I’m just a fool.

It’s my fault to think you’ll be true (yeah, yeah, yeah).
I’m just a fool.

The third song that I will share is one of my favorite Rolling Stones songs of all time, and it is called Fool to Cry. I saved the best for last.

“Fool To Cry”

When I come home baby
And I’ve been working all night long
I put my daughter on my knee, and she said
“Daddy what’s wrong?”
She whispered in my ear so sweet
You know what she said?
She said

“Daddy you’re a fool to cry
You’re a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.”

Daddy, you’re a fool

You know, I got a woman
(Daddy, you’re a fool)
And she live in the poor part of town
And I go see her sometimes
And we make love, so fine
I put my head on her shoulder
She said, “Tell me all your troubles.”
You know what she said? she said

“Daddy you’re a fool to cry
You’re a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.”

Daddy you’re a fool to cry
Oh, I love you so much baby
Daddy you’re a fool to cry
Daddy you’re a fool to cry, yeah

She said, “Daddy you’re a fool to cry
You’re a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.”

She said, “Daddy you’re a fool to cry
Daddy you’re a fool to cry
Daddy you’re a fool to cry
Daddy you’re a fool to cry

Even my friends say to me sometimes
I make out like I don’t understand them
You know what they say?
They say, “Daddy you’re a fool to cry
You’re a fool to cry
And it makes me wonder why.”

I’m a fool baby
I’m a fool baby
I’m a certified fool
I want to tell ya
Gotta tell ya, baby

I’m a fool baby
I’m a fool baby
Come on
I’m a fool
I’m a fool
I’m a fool
