E.M.’s Throwback Thursday – 12/30/2021

This week’s Throwback Thursday Prompt from Maggie is: Superstitions, Trinkets, and Charms

What makes you feel lucky? Is it a four-leaf clover, a rabbit’s foot, or a lucky penny?

I like crystals, and I have this one amethyst pendulum that always makes me feel safer and/or lucky.

What are you superstitious of? Will you walk under a ladder? What’s your lucky number? What if a black cat crosses your path?

Spilled Salt…I am superstitious of that most of all. I always throw the pinch over my shoulder before cleaning it up. I also would never walk under a ladder or step on a crack on the sidewalk (Step on a crack, and you’ll break your mama’s back…It stuck in adulthood.) If a black cat crosses my path, I feel that is luckier than being bad luck, but I am have been a Wiccan most of my life. My lucky number is 22.

Where did you learn ideas concerning luck? Do you still have superstitions in your adult life?

When I was 14, I found my own path in faith and that is where I learned many of my feelings on luck, curses, superstitions, etc. I have been a Wiccan since that time in my life. I went to my first Samhain at 15, and I feel that was super lucky to find that fork in my road at a young age. My father was a devoted Nazareth Christian, and then he went to a Baptist church for the remainder of his life. When he passed, he was still questioning his faith, so I am especially happy that I have not had that struggle.

Since this is the last week of the year I am curious – do you make resolutions, eat specific foods, or have traditions or superstitions to usher in the new year?

I try not to make resolutions. I tend to break them. I set goals, and I try to achieve those. That may seem like the same thing, but it isn’t because of the mentality behind it for my own life.

My new year is usually uneventful since getting older. I used to party my booty off in my 20s and 30s on the new year. Now I am just happy to see myself make it through another year.

  1. E.M. I am a big believer in the energy of crystals and gemstones. The earth’s energy definitely counts for something. So many of those childhood rhymes stuck with us, didn’t they? I have never been a partier at New Year’s and now that I am older it is definitely not of any interest. So glad to have you join in the prompt this week.

    1. Thanks for having me Maggie! It was a fun prompt to join in on. I love the power of the moon, sun, and the elements! It makes more sense to me than other things when it comes to faith. I think these days I may be more inclined to step on the crack though *giggles*

  2. Thanks for joining in. I taught Earth Science and was always fascinated with rocks minerals and crystals. I could have spent half a year teaching about them instead of the allotted time. You are very brave to have moved away from your family’s beliefs to find your own path. An online friend once shared that she purchased a “ starter” kit of crystals and was learning all about them. That might be a bucket list learning for me.

    1. I am glad to join in 😁 I need to do better about using my crystals and the elements. I bet that was fun teaching Earth Science. I always loved Science in school 🙂 Thanks for saying I was brave. It did have consequences with mom and dad, but I had to follow my heart ❤️ Have a great Sunday, Lauren!
