E.M.’s Song Lyric Sunday – School ***PG-17*** Trigger Warning!!!

Newepicauthor has a prompt that’s really fun for me because I love music. It’s called Song Lyric Sunday, and this week’s theme is School, College, Class, Degree. The first song that came to mind was Smokin’ in the Boys Room by Motley Crew, and the second one that came to mind was Hot 4 Teacher by Van Halen. However, the one I want to highlight the most is Jeremy by Pearl Jam.

This song called Jeremy is pretty sad, and it was the first song that addressed a bullied boy that comes to school with a gun that I can remember. Back when this song came out, we didn’t really talk about bullying the way we do now. So this song is more than an honorable mention. It is something that every kid and parent should hear to stop the stigma of school shootings. After the song, I included a piece about the boy that inspired the song.

Here are the lyrics to Jeremy by Pearl Jam:

At home drawing pictures of mountain tops
With him on top, lemon yellow sun
Arms raised in a “V”
And the dead lay in pools of maroon below

Daddy didn’t give attention
Oh, to the fact that mommy didn’t care
King Jeremy the wicked
Oh, ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Clearly, I remember picking on the boy
Seemed a harmless little fuck
Ooh, but we unleashed a lion
Gnashed his teeth and bit the recess lady’s breast
How could I forget? And he hit me with a surprise left
My jaw left hurting, ooh, dropped wide open
Just like the day, oh, like the day I heard

Daddy didn’t give affection, no
And the boy was something that mommy wouldn’t wear
King Jeremy the wicked
Oh, ruled his world

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today

Try to forget this (Try to forget this)
Try to erase this (Try to erase this)
From the blackboard

Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in class today
Jeremy spoke in, spoke in
Jeremy spoke in, spoke in
Jeremy spoke in class today

(Spoke in, spoke in)
(Spoke in, spoke in, spoke in, spoke in…)
(Spoke in, spoke in)
Ooh oh, oh, oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Ooh oh, oh (Spoke in…)

Be kind as much as possible because meanness can change someone’s life in the worst way.

xoxo, E.M.

  1. E. M. thanks for joining in on Song Lyric Sunday and I agree that Smokin’ in the Boys Room by Motley Crew, or Hot 4 Teacher by Van Halen would have made great choices. I do remember gearing Jeremy by Pearl Jam on the radio, but I didn’t have a clue what this song was about and I appreciate you explaining it for me. I hope that you stop back again and I noticed that a lot of bloggers that I am acquainted with joined in your new challenge and I will give that a try next week. It was interesting learning the story behind the song, thanks for sharing that,

    1. I was happy to join in 😁 Thanks for having me! I have always been a bit of a music junkie because it speaks to me when other things don’t make sense in my life. I made a hobby out of learning what the lyrics meant on songs that were lyrically challenged in my head. Jeremy was one of those. I’m glad that you were able to learn from my hobby 😁 I will definitely be back more often! I look forward to seeing you on my prompt next week! Have a great week!
